Ashley Kelly, a volunteer with Wrenn Rescues in Southern California, cared for a black and white kitten that was discovered in a car’s engine compartment two months ago. He had a cleft lip when he was born, but he had a tremendous determination to survive.

As part of maintenance therapy, Ashley tube-fed the kitten constantly. Odahviing, a little child, overcome a mild cold and continued to get well. It was obvious from away that this guy needed a trustworthy friend.

A few weeks later, Ashley learned about a shaky kitten, almost Odahviing’s age, who need immediate care and monitoring.

β€œThis guy (named Attis) has cerebellar hypoplasia,” says Ashley. β€œThis happens for various reasons, but most often when a pregnant cat catches the panleukopenia virus, and the infection is transmitted to kittens in the womb.”

The new kitten was delighted with the home environment and became incredibly affectionate.

Β

β€œHe has all he needs to lead a full, happy life. Cats with cerebellar hypoplasia quickly adjust to their dangerous situation because it is neither unpleasant nor infectious. He is undoubtedly among the happiest kittens I have ever seen; he is kind, loving, and always purring.

Because they have a good possibility of getting along, Ashley made the decision to pair up two singles.

Before they were ready for a face-to-face meeting, Odahviing had already got excited about wrestling with his new friend and was trying to attack him through the barrier panels – he was so eager to play.

And now, the day of the long-awaited acquaintance has come. The two easily found a common language, sternly fussed, and then embraced.

β€œI think it’s safe to say that these boys will become an inseparable duo,” wrote Ashley.

Over the next few days, they finally became friends. And then Ashley noticed that Attis’ eyes were clouding …

Β According to the vet, Attis appears to be blind in both eyes. However, the kitten is still able to use the rest of its senses in the same manner as its sighted cousins.

He stumbles and can’t see properly, but he manages to find his way about by hearing and feeling the vibrations in his mustache! Ashley claims that the kitten β€œjumps and runs as accurately as any 8-week-old cat.”

Best friends thrive under the wing of their guardians, and their friendship grows stronger every day. Odahviing urges his colleague to play and constantly keeps him company.

With brotherly help, Attis’ motor skills gradually improved. β€œHis wobbliness steadily got smaller to a very controllable point. Once here, he could barely walk. Watching him grow and develop is amazing.”

Attis is extremely energizing, but Odahviing doesn’t mind and will battle him for whatever long he wants.

Then they will both take a snooze as Odahviing thoroughly licks Attis.
