This is Fat Fred β an exceptionally portly cat who spends his days lounging at the Furry Friends Animal Hospital in Louisiana.
Β But Fredβs presence there has led to some confusion.
Fred, who at the time weighed a staggering 29 pounds, was adopted by veterinarian Marcia Riedel from a nearby animal shelter. Riedel quickly realized, though, that the catβs personality is even larger than his girth.
The Dodo quoted Riedel as saying, βI found that he likes to travel around the clinic as the official greeter, rather than living at my house with its lack of frequent exposure to fans. βFat Fred thinks that people are always supposed to be serving him food.β
The catβs greatest scam may have been getting others to believe that he is feeding more than just himself.
Fat Fred likes to let it all hang out in the clinicβs front window, attracting the attention of passersby. Heβs amassed quite a fan base, in fact, but his flabby frame often gives people the wrong impression.
β90 percent of the folks seeing him believe he is pregnant,β Riedel said.
Nope. Itβs just fat.
In order to clear things up about Fat Fred, Riedel decided to post a sign on the window where he usually lazes:
The secretβs out β and the chonky cat has no idea.
βIf Fat Fred could read the sign, he would likely rewrite it to say he is βNOT on a diet,ββ Riedel said.
Fortunately, thanks to the help of his owner, Fred has begun to slim down. At his last weigh-in, heβd dropped to 25 pounds. Thatβs still quite hefty, but Fredβs otherwise healthy.
Especially his hearing.
He can literally hear a morsel drop from one end of the clinic and come running with extraordinary speed, according to Riedel.
Fred is not, however, expecting a child.
And now everybody is aware of it.
